Creative Climate – mobilising through culture and the arts
Funded by Creative Australia as the national culture, arts and climate action peak body, we come together with a shared intent to respond to and support the sector in climate justice and adaptation.
We’re working across policy, practice, research, advocacy, and public programs to build and strengthen the mycelium of artists and organisations working towards climate-aligned cultural transformation.
Creative Climate is a First Nations and artist-led national consortium made up of four powerhouse organisations, two experienced facilitators and an environmental consultant:
-
Green Music Australia
Green Music Australia is an independent charity and the national peak body for music and the environment, driving industry-wide sustainability and climate advocacy. Founded in 2012, they work alongside artists and the sector to inspire action, centering First Nations leadership in their pursuit of cultural and environmental change.
-
A Climate For Art
A Climate For Art (ACFA) unites the arts in addressing the climate crisis through divestment and community action. Centered on financed emissions, ACFA fosters collective change and critical dialogue through events, gatherings, and tangible climate initiatives.

How we work
In this first year of operation, we're in start up mode – building a new consortium and a new way of working. We are talking to different parts of the sector about their needs for, and barriers to, taking climate action to ensure we apply our resources strategically. We’re building systems, processes, platforms and ways of working as we go. And delivering our programs. We make strategic decisions collectively, meeting regularly online or in person when we can, and gather for a vision and planning residency annually to map the years ahead.
The consortium nests within the governance, policy and administrative structure of Green Music Australia.
Our facilitators, Angharad and Catherine work part time on the consortium activities. Each of the consortium organisations receive allocated funds as a contribution to their Creative Climate programs.
We are committed to actively testing and trialling reduced carbon approaches in everything we do operationally and programmatically - our deliberately low fi (but super cool) website designed by Hours After reflects our intention to reduce our digital footprint.
