Five free pilot places available for non-music venues across Australia
The Green Venue Certification is a program developed by Green Music Australia to recognise and support cultural venues taking meaningful environmental action.
By certifying your venue, you can promote your environmental credentials, helping you to connect with likeminded artists, industry, and audiences.
Following a successful pilot with live music venues, we’re now expanding the program to include non-music venues—including theatres, galleries, cinemas, community halls, and other cultural spaces.
As part of this new pilot, we’re offering fully funded places for five Australian cultural venues.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why get certified?
There are plenty of reasons to get certified. By becoming a Green Certified Venue, you will be able to demonstrate through independent reviewing that you are taking steps to reduce your venue’s environmental footprint.
Certified venues can use the official Green Venue Certified logo on their website, building and communications, promoting their eco-credentials to audiences, artists, and industry stakeholders. You will also be promoted through Creative Climate’s channels.
Many sustainability actions also have positive business impacts. Data from Green Music Australia’s sustainability reporting tool, Amidesi, has found that venues can decrease their energy bills and consumption by more than 20% after implementing basic energy efficiency upgrades.
What is the process to being certified?
To get started, venues can complete an EOI form which asks some initial questions.
We will send you a free copy of Green Music Australia’s Green Venue Guide, which provides step by step actions and resources on how you can take environmental action.
If approved, you will be provided a simple interactive form with a variety of questions around energy, waste, procurement and your day to day operations. You will need to provide some evidence of your actions. Creative Climate will be available to support you during this process. We will then review your application and provide you with the outcome of your application.
How long will it take?
Completing the certification application should take no longer than two hours. You do not have to complete the entire application in one sitting, the form will allow you to save your progress and continue at a later date.
What happens if I don’t score well?
If you do not score well enough to be certified, we will provide feedback, guidance and tips on how to improve your environmental impact.
Green Music Australia’s Green Venue Guide has been developed in partnership with venues and industry to provide you with tools and tips to take practical action. We highly encourage venues who do not achieve certification to take further action and try again.
What is the cost?
The program is currently being piloted for free for five Australian cultural venues.
